Discernment Programs

The Canali Program is the official discernment program of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, helping men discern the call to the Priesthood.

The underpinning principle of the Canali Program is that a man in discernment for the seminary and the ordained life is best served by first becoming an active lay minister in a local parish community.

The Gratia Program is the discernment program of the Archdiocese of Brisbane to help discern the call to the Religious Life

The underpinning principle of the Gratia Program is that a woman in discernment for religious life is best served by first becoming an actively engaged in serving the Church through the local parish community.

Women in our Archdiocese need support from one another and others already on the journey to foster their discernment and development. Sisterhood through Vocation Brisbane offers such support, which is modelled to us in scripture by the likes of Mary and Elizabeth. Get in touch with Sr Theresa to learn more.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” - Proverbs 27:17 Scripture speaks to us of the importance of fellowship. Christ Himself had the 12 Apostles. So, as to be faithful to the example Christ gave to us in His life, we seek to give men in Brisbane a space to grow and discern God’s call on their lives through brotherhood events. Please contact Xavier if you would like to learn more.

Once a year, for both men and women, we offer an opportunity to sit down with our Archbishop over dinner to hear him and others share their experience with discernment and the journey of life, living a religious vocation. It always promises to be a lovely night filled with good food, hearty conversation and is perfect for anyone curious to learn more about their vocation. If you are interested, please contact us to learn more.

In August of each year, we host Quo Vadis for Men and Quo Vadis for Women. Quo Vadis is Latin for Where are you going. This is the question we invite all to ask themselves as they join us for a weekend guided retreat, which includes dynamic talks, small-group discussions, and prayer opportunities. It is a great chance for single men/women who are open to a religious vocation to explore their call and grow in their relationship with Christ. If you are interested, please get in touch to express your interest and learn more.
